We’ve heard from a number of paddlers wondering when the 2021 Park-to-Park Paddle will take place. The unfortunate answer is there won’t be one. But we have a suggested alternative.
Planning under the shadow of COVID, we could not figure out a way to hold P2P safely, especially for the usual shuttle by bus to bring participants to the launch after they take their vehicles to the takeout. With coordinating fire rescue teams, club instructors, lock operators and the usual high numbers of paddlers, it’s not an event easily scheduled spontaneously.
We suggest you try the Appleton Locks Paddle. Not the same workout as the 8-mile P2P, the paddle from Lutz Park in Appleton to Sunset Park in Kimberly offers a tour of all four of Appleton’s historic, hand-operated locks. What the 6.5-mile paddle lacks in distance, it makes up for in heritage and time to rest in the locks.
The Appleton Locks Paddle will be in August. The exact date is being worked out based on rescue support and flow records. We will update here as soon as possible.
